On a beautiful Friday, October 16th, Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay (RTTB) organized a successful Hurricane Relief Kit distribution event in Ybor City, with hundreds of cars lining Palm Avenue at the Children’s Board headquarters. Families affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton came to receive essential supplies such as food, water, cleaning kits, and tarps, helping them recover from the devastation caused by the storms.
RTTB CEO Jose Garcia noted that cars began lining up as early as 9 a.m., even though the event started at noon. By midday, the line stretched down Palm Avenue, with enough supplies to serve 500 families. Volunteers worked tirelessly to distribute kits, which included meals, cleaning chemicals, and tarps to prevent further damage to homes.
This event wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable support of our partners, including the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, Sunshine Health, Farm Share, and Toolbank. Their donations and volunteer efforts were critical in making the day a success, ensuring that those impacted by the hurricanes received the immediate relief they needed.
"We’re continuing to assess and prioritize homeowners with interior damage to their homes, and this event was just one step in a long road to recovery," said Garcia. Families, like those of Michael Urso and Linda Maddox, left with much-needed supplies, a sense of hope, and reassurance that RTTB, along with our community partners, will be there every step of the way.
