Employees from The Depository Trust and Clearing Company (DTCC) volunteered at the home of Deborah Solorzano in West Tampa. Ms. Solorzano is a true fighter against cancer. In 2000, she was diagnosed with colon cancer which she defeated after surgery and six months of chemotherapy. In 2003, it reappeared again, this time in her liver and breasts. She underwent surgery and received chemotherapy for a year. In July of 2008, the cancer returned to her liver, and she is currently undergoing chemotherapy to kill the cancer. Despite all of this, Ms. Solorzano manages to continue working for Hillsborough County Criminal Court as a clerk and supports her two son’s education. One son is 20 years old and attending HCC, and her other son is a senior in high school and has been accepted to the University of Florida.
Volunteers from DTCC painted the exterior and interior of the home, cleaned up her back yard and provide landscaping to the front of the house. The team of employees, many of whom worked at DTCC’s New York office during the 2001 terrorist attacks on that city, had a moment of silence before the work begun to remember the lives lost on this tragic day eight years ago. DTCC’s work was supported by students from Home Builders Institute (HBI) who completed several carpentry issues in the house such as installing a new floor in the kitchen, repairing the shower wall, and covering holes in both the kitchen and bathroom ceilings as result of a roof leak.
